Ghosted Review. A call that shouldn’t have been returned.

I would generously describe Ana de Armas as ‘wooden’ in this film. Admittedly she didn’t have much to work with in terms of script, premise or co-star but I think her next choice is key. Like a football player who’s had a couple of bad games, if I was the comparable actress waiting ‘on the bench’ I’d be warming up ready to be called in. Surely she can’t be trading on her Oscar nomination for Blonde, especially considering she was also nominated for a Razzie for the same role.
Chris Evans is also similarly underwhelming. His range is somewhat limited by the script but could also have been limited by 20-years of standing in front of a green screen letting a red, white and blue shield carry most of the weight.
Though I think the biggest flaw of the movie is in the casting, not because of the below-par acting and non-existent chemistry. The fact that we’re meant to believe that Chris Evans, who doesn’t look all that different from his Marvel character, is an ‘ordinary’ farm boy who can’t hold his own in this unexpected hostage situation is like asking us to believe that someone would fly halfway across the world for a girl he just met by stalking her using his ’tile’ tracker (the premise of this movie).
The whole thing is just a bit beyond me and while there were moments of acceptable action there is nothing beyond that. I didn’t believe for a moment that “Cole” and “Sadie” were flirting or had any future as a couple.
If I was either of these leads I’d be hoping that my next film turned out to be big, because this is adding little to their reputation at the moment.
